I am pleased to announce that I have sold my first work of short fiction. I have been requested to not release the publication details yet, but I am too excited about this development in my writing career to not scream about it into the wilds of the internet. Getting a short story published has been a goal of mine since April of last year when I decided to see if I could make my writing hobby into a viable source of income. Submitting work to critical eyes is difficult for even the best writers, and it's remarkable how many rejection letters one can receive in eighteen months. Especially when you consider how long it takes for a submission to even be read. But two weeks ago— instead of my inbox filling with yet another form rejection email— I received a glowing acceptance.
Look out for an official announcement about my story and where it will be available soon. Unfortunately, the publication in which it is to be included will not be available to consumers until the spring of next year, but I plan to write a few articles about the story and the inspiration behind it during the wait.
MY STATE OF BEING
2024 has been an excellent year for me as a writer, though I have yet to publicly share much about my accomplishments. In addition to the aforementioned short stories, I've also drafted two novels. One of these drafts is very close to being fit for readers outside of my immediate family. My goal for 2025 is to query a novel to a literary agent or publisher, and it's exciting to see how close I am to reaching this.
MORE GOALS
Another goal for next year is to be more active as a blogger. It may be a surprise, but I personally have the most challenging time writing about myself, even when it's good news (I wrote three versions of the first paragraph of this blog, and I'm still not happy with its current state). However, I have found a lot of encouragement from other authors who write about their craft in addition to being creative. I aspire to be something similar, and this medium is a good tool to achieve this. I would love to one day hear that someone else was inspired to put words on a page because of something I wrote. I am also working towards launching a Substack to achieve that end, so look out for more about that in the coming months.
