My latest short story EITRDROPAR has been selected for publication by Flame Tree Press

Red book with viking holding axon cover

I am excited to announce that Flame Tree Publishing has once again fallen in love with one of my stories and selected it for inclusion in their Myths, Gods & Immortals anthology series. Loki is set to be available in June for UK readers and in July for readers in the US and worldwide. My story, EITRDROPAR (or Venom Drops), will appear alongside the works of seventeen other authors, a forward by Tom Birkett and an extended introduction by Matt Ralphs.

I am beyond thrilled to work with the Flame Tree team on another project. I could not ask for a better team to handle my stories, and I am over the moon to be included in another stunning collection.

Loki by Marten Eskil Winge, 1890

EITRDROPAR retells one of the last myths in Loki's saga. Loki is bound in a cave with a venomous snake coiled over his head as a punishment for his misdeeds. The snake cannot bite Loki, but drops of venom fall from its mouth and torment the disgraced god. When a drop lands on Loki, his convulsions shake the earth. Sigyn (Loki's faithful wife) stands nearby to catch the venom in a vessel and spare the god of mischief and the world from endless torment. The two immortals are imprisoned together like this until Ragnarok, when Loki inexplicably escapes to play tricks on the gods one last time.

This myth fascinated me when I first discovered it. It's such a beautiful scene of marital devotion and grace that is uncommon in mythology of all kinds. It's also a myth that allows for tremendous artistic license because so much of the story is unwritten. What is Loki and Sygin's relationship like in the cave? Do they receive visitors? How does Loki escape? I attempt to answer these questions while also bringing a little-known character (Sygin) out of the pyres of Norse fables.

Be sure to watch for Myths Gods & Immortals: Loki when it is published in a beautiful, deluxe hardbound edition in June 2025 in the UK and released in July in the United States and worldwide.
